Womens team Kata Appeal Lodged and upheld

25/05/2010

KBI WORLD TITLES 2010—WOMENS TEAM KATA APPEAL

An appeal was lodged by Daniel Spice acting as the  Australian Team Manager on behalf of
the Australian team in the senior women's team kata at 2.05pm on the 25th of May, 2010.
The appeal challenged the official result of the Women's team kata event held on the 9th of
May, 2010.

Grounds of appeal:
1.  Due to the late entry of the India team the coaches from Australia & Wales were given
insufficient time to advise their athletes that 2 Kata may be required.
2.  The event was listed as senior women's (16 years and above) and the team submitted
from India had a member that was below 16 years of age.

Following the lodgment of this appeal a meeting was convened with the Indian Chief instructor
who heard these grounds.

Results of meeting:
·  It was confirmed the Indian team was submitted for entry 50 minutes prior to the event.
It was unclear when Australia and/or Wales were informed of the late entry.
·  It was confirmed that the event was listed as a senior event (+16 years) both online and
on the paper format entry forms. It was also confirmed that only one member of the
Indian team was over 16 years of age.

Results of the appeal:
The team from India has been disqualified from the event. The amended official result of the
Senior Women's Team kata is:
1.  Australia
2.  Wales
3.  India
New medals have been posted to the athletes involved.
As Chief Instructor on behalf of all involved I respectfully apologise for this error in what was
an otherwise wonderful event, sadly this upheld appeal will not replace the missed moment but
I trust that all who witnessed this event will agree that the correct results are now registered in
the records.
